James Murdoch, who, as chairman of News International, had been the public face of his father Rupert’s newspaper business in the U.K. as scandal engulfed it beginning in 2009, has removed himself from the unit’s board. The announcement comes just weeks after he had resigned as chairman. Although he will now focus his attention on News Corp’s pay-TV business from the company’s headquarters in New York, he is likely to be called back to London for further questioning about his knowledge — or lack of it — of alleged telephone hacking of the voicemail of film, TV and sports celebrities and other public figures and of alleged bribery of police officers and officials by News International employees.
