Fox added an additional night of American Idol to its lineup last week and, along with a strong finish for its Daytona 500 coverage, was thereby able to claim the top spot on the Nielsen ratings list among viewers 18-49, while CBS nabbed the victory for total adults, with NCIS once again holding the top position. NBC was able to squeeze into the top ten with impressive ratings for The Voice, which laded in sixth place. Among the evening newscasts, NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams topped the list with 9.7 million viewers, followed by ABC World News with Diane Sawyer with 8.0 million and the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley with 6.8 million. For the week, CBS averaged a 6.5 rating and an 11 share in kprimetime, just ahead of Fox with a 6.1/10. ABC placed third with a 4.1/7, while NBC trailed with a 3.6/6.
