IDOL‘S RATINGS CONTINUE TO FALL

David Mazouz, Kiefer Sutherland in Touch

With CBS preempting its regular Thursday-night shows (including its tough-to-beat card The Big Bang Theory) with March Madness coverage, there was little competition for Fox’s weakened but still-potent American Idol and the returning drama Touch. American Idol won its 8:00 p.m. time period — as well as the night — with a 10.7 rating and a 17 share. But those figures were down a whopping 27 percent from the comparable week’s figures in 2011. Meanwhile, Fox’s Touch, with Kiefer Sutherland, which aired a preview episode in January, made a solid return with 11.6 million viewers, making it the second-highest-rated show of the night, behind American Idol. CBS’s NCAA basketball playoff coverage put it in second place for the night as it averaged 6.7 million viewers, about equal with last year.
