JOURNEY 2 HOLDS ON TO FOREIGN LEAD

Overseas, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island held on to the top position for the fourth consecutive weekend. But the fact that it earned only $14.7 million reflected the poor performance of the overall foreign box office. The No. 2 film was 20th Century Fox’s romantic comedy This Means War, which earned $14.1 million. Universal’s Safe House followed in third place with $10.8 million. It barely edged out DreamWorks/Disney’s War Horse with $10.6 million. Rounding out the top five was Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, being distributed overseas by Paramount, which grossed $9.6 million — more than a third of that amount ($3.3 million) derived from its opening in Japan.
