MOVIEGOERS GOBBLING UP HUNGER GAMES TICKETS IN ADVANCE

March 22, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Presales of tickets for The Hunger Games have gone through the roof, the Hollywood Reporter reported today (Thursday), noting that by Wednesday afternoon, the country’s largest theater chains had already sold $15 million worth of tickets to weekend screenings that begin at midnight tonight. The trade publication quoted one unnamed exhibitor as predicting that the movie will rack up $20 million or more for the midnight screenings alone. Hunger Games on Wednesday became the Fandango website’s fifth biggest preseller, topped only by two Twilight flicks and two Harry Potter flicks. It’s expected to move to the third spot on the list by this afternoon. The record for a March opening weekend was set by Disney’s Alice in Wonderland in 2010 with $116 million.
