MURDOCH’S “PROXY” IN U.K. ARRESTED AGAIN

The Sun, has been arrested in connection with the telephone hacking scandal that has rocked Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp empire. Police arrested Brooks and her husband, racehorse trainer Charlie Brooks, at their home in Oxfordshire early this morning (Tuesday). Four others were also detained, including Mark Hanna, News International’s chief of security. All were taken into custody on suspicion of “conspiracy to pervert the course of justice,” a charge that would appear to be related to reports that emails, computers, and other evidence may have been destroyed after the investigation into the voicemail hacking charges resumed in 2010. According to several accounts, Scotland Yard officers were searching the residences of the arrested individuals. Brooks had been regarded as one of the most powerful figures in Britain before the hacking scandal erupted, largely because she was regarded as Rupert Murdoch’s chief deputy in the country. She and her husband are known to be close friends of Prime Minister David Cameron. She has consistently denied that she was aware of any illegal activities that might have taken place at News International or its newspapers when she was in charge of them.
