It’s not often that a project connected with Steven Spielberg comes crashing to earth, but such is the case with his expensive effects-laden Terra Nova, which was canceled on Monday by Fox TV. The time-travel series, which debuted with 9.2 million viewers, wound up the season with 7.2 million — a number not regarded as terrible by ordinary standards, but it was not good enough to justify the huge budget. (It was reported that the pilot alone may have cost as much as $20 million.) Ironically, the studio that produced the series is 20th Century Fox TV, a corporate sibling of Fox TV. Following the cancellation, the studio said that it plans to shop the series around to other networks.
