CAPUS: 911 TAPE EDITED FOR TIME, NOT POLITICS

NBC News President Steve Capus has denied that the fired news producer who edited neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman’s 911 tape had any political agenda in doing so. In an interview with Reuters over the weekend, Capus said that the producer — who has yet to be identified — “was questioned extensively about motivation, and it was determined that the person had cut the video clip down to meet a maximum time requirement for the length of the segment — a common pressure in morning television — and inadvertently edited the call in a way that proved misleading.” Conservative critics of the network are not buying the explanation, asking why it had taken a week for it to deal with the matter. At the conservative Breitbart.com, Associate Editor Alexander Marlow wrote, “For the president of the NBC News team to suggest that this edit was anything but deliberate is arrogant beyond belief.”
