The Five-Year Engagement, starring Jason Segel and Emily Blunt, is expected to debut on top of a soft weekend at the box office. Pundits are predicting it will earn $15-20 million — not much, but a lot more than three other newcomers are likely to earn, according to the experts. The Raven, a horror film about Edgar Allan Poe, and the animated The Pirates! Band of Misfits are each expected to collect about $8-12 million, while the safe is expected to be empty for Safe, starring Jason Statham, which is likely to open with $6-8 million. This is likely to be the third weekend in a row that the box office will fall behind the comparable period a year ago, but studios and theater owners see a blinding light at the end of the tunnel. The Avengers arrives next week, and some analysts are confidently predicting that it will debut with $150 million.
