FOX NEWS “MOLE” IS RAIDED

Although nothing further has been heard from Joe Muto, the so-called Fox News mole, since Gawker.com published three relatively tame posts from him two weeks ago, Fox clearly is taking no chances that he may strike again. “I just got search warranted at 6:30am by a very polite crew from the DA’s office. Took my iPhone, laptop, some old notebooks,” Muto tweeted early today (Wednesday). Later: “According to the warrant, Fox News is apparently accusing me of grand larceny amongst other things.” Then, referring to the activities of reporters working for Fox News’s corporate sibling, the News of the World, whose illegal activities were covered up for years by management, Muto tweeted, “I should have done something more innocuous, like hacked a dead girl’s phone and interfered with a police investigation.” Following Muto’s ouster, lawyers for Fox warned Gawker publisher Nick Denton: “Muto’s admissions are admissions of likely criminal and civil wrongdoing on both his and Gawker’s part, which will be the subject of further intensive investigation. … Gawker should immediately stop publishing information and videos that have been unlawfully obtained by or from Joe Muto and return them to Fox News.”
