NO LACK OF BUYERS FOR FAMILY FILMS ON DVD AND BLU-RAY

Family films continue to outperform on home video — the only bright spot on an otherwise dreary business. The latest evidence is the strong performance of Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, which easily captured the top spot on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert chart for overall disc sales and Blu-ray Discs. No. 2 on the list: another family film, the Easter-themed Hop from Universal Home Video (which was not released until Friday, instead of the usual Tuesday). No. 3 on the list: yet another family film, The Muppets, from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. Three other family films made the top-ten list of sellers: Paramount/DreamWorks Animation’s Puss in Boots at No. 6; Paramount’s The Adventures of Tintin at No. 7; and Happy Feet Two at No. 8.
