SEACREST: A HORSE OF A DIFFERENT COLOR?

Ryan Seacrest on Wednesday appeared on NBC’s show, which had teased that he would be making “a major announcement” — and while there was no announcement that he would, as rumored, replace Matt Lauer if Lauer and NBC fail to reach an agreement on a new contract, this bit of repartee between Seacrest and Lauer did take place: Lauer: “What kind of conversations have you had with NBC about joining the Today show?” Seacrest: “Oh, they didn’t tell you?” Lauer: “That’s why you’re here. … you didn’t answer the question … and I want names and dates.” Seacrest: “The conversations were mostly about doing weather.” Lauer: “So Al [Roker] should be doing this. … Do you see yourself doing a job like this?” Seacrest: “I don’t know. I see you doing this for as long as you want to. So maybe the question is, how long will you be on the Today show?” Lauer dodged the question, remarking only that he and Seacrest are friends and that there is no “tension” between them. (This ought to have been a cue for Seacrest to remark, “You didn’t answer MY question,” but he didn’t.) Seacrest did disclose that he will be contributing to Today‘s coverage of the London Olympics this summer.
