With ratings for television’s big talent contests down markedly from previous years, CBS — the only network that does not air such contests — boasted that it is winding up the season with the largest margin of victory by any network in 23 years. At least, so far as total viewers are concerned. Among the key demographic groups, it placed second, behind Fox, with viewers 18-49. However, it came in first with the 25-54 age group. In a statement on Tuesday, CBS also boasted that it produced the season’s top new series, Person of Interest, among total viewers and the top new program, 2 Broke Girls, among viewers 18-49. For the third straight year its NCIS ranked as the highest-rated scripted TV series. Indeed, CBS placed seven shows in the list of the top ten scripted shows of the season. According to audience researcher Nielsen, CBS averaged 11.75 million viewers for the season. Fox was second with 8.86 million viewers; ABC was third with 8.36 million, while NBC trailed with 7.39 million. The season officially ends on Saturday.
