The new CBS This Morning celebrated its 100th edition on Friday,

Gayle King

still mired in third place among the four major networks. In an interview appearing in Sunday’s New York Times, cohost Gayle King was asked about the fact that she and Charlie Rose had failed to move the ratings above where they were when the program was called The Early Show. ( observed that although the new show has added about 50,000 total adults, it has lost 40,000 in the all-important 25-54 age group.) King replied, “Are the numbers where we want them to be? Certainly not. But I’m encouraged by the reaction I’m getting from people. It took [ABC’s] Good Morning America more than 10 years to really get in the game [against NBC’s Today.] I think CBS will give us a good two years, and if by then there’s no change, you have to think [that they’ll have to ask], Well, should we try something else?”
