Their numbers may have looked battered compared with previous years, but ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and Fox’s American Idol dominated the Nielsen ratings chart last week as they headed into the stretch. Monday night’s DWTS claimed the top status with a total of 17.62 million viewers, followed by the Wednesday edition of Idol with 16.87 million. (Although it fell outside of the top-ten among total adults, NBC’s The Voice captured the fourth and fifth spots among the 18-49 demo.) A repeat of CBS’s NCIS fell to fifth place from No. 1 last week with 12.4 million. Among the evening newscasts, NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams remained the leader with 81.9 million viewers. ABC World News with Diane Sawyer placed second with 73.1 million, followed by the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley with 5.8 million viewers. Overall, CBS continued to hold the No. 1 ranking among total adults with a 5.4 average rating and a 9 share. ABC, however, was close behind with a 5.2/9. Fox placed fourth with a 4.5/7, while NBC trailed with a 3.3/5.
