Sony’s motion picture unit was the one bright spot on the parent company’s dismal annual SEC filing today (Thursday), which reported a record loss of $5.7 billion, including a loss of $3.2 billion in the most-recent quarter. Over the weekend, however, Sony Films became the year-long domestic box office leader, with $518.1 million in ticket sales thanks to such hits as 21 Jump Street, The Vow, and Think Like a Man. According to Daily Variety, a close second this year is Universal with $516.2 million, followed by Lionsgate with $500.9 million, Disney with $451.6 million, Warner Bros. with $432.5 million, 20th Century Fox with $376.8 million, and Paramount with $272.8 million.
