Amazon’s LoveFilm, which is competing against Netflix in the U.K. to provide low-cost movie rentals online, announced today (Wednesday) that it has struck an exclusive deal with Universal Pictures for dozens of films for its streaming service. The films won’t be available until at least a year after they hit theaters, but subscribers to streaming services have seemingly demonstrated that they don’t seem to be particularly upset about the long delay. They continue to sign up in greater numbers each month. The films include It’s Complicated, Kick-Ass, Despicable Me, American Reunion, Battleship, Nanny McPhee Returns, Leap Year, Green Zone, The Wolfman, Bridesmaids, Snow White and the Huntsman, Bourne Legacy, Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax and Safe House. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
