HUGE AUDIENCES GATHER FOR EUROPEAN SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP

Forget the crisis of the euro. It’s Euro 2012 that has everyone talking these days on the European continent. Wednesday night’s coverage of the Spain-Portugal matchup was watched by an estimated 100 million viewers. The victory of the Spanish team drew 87 percent of Spain’s viewers — making it the most-watched television program in the country’s history. ESPN’s telecasts have been averaging 1.2 million viewers, up 64 percent against 2008. In addition WatchESPN, the sports network’s mobile app, has been averaging around 85,000 viewers per match.
