Overseas, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted was, well, the most wanted, particularly in Europe. Of a $75.5-million foreign gross, $7.6 million came from France alone. Nevertheless, the opening of Euro 2012 clearly had an effect on attendance, with several countries reporting steep drop-offs from Friday to Saturday. The second week of Prometheus drew a solid $39.2 million. Playing in 50 markets, it attracted $5.2 million in the U.K. and $4 million in France. Close behind, in third place, was Sony’s Men in Black 3, which drew $38.3 million to bring its foreign total to $352.1 million, putting it ahead of the 1997 original installment of the franchise, which grossed $338.7 million abroad, and the first sequel 10 years ago, which grossed $241 million. Rounding out the top five overseas were Snow White and the Huntsman, with $24.6 million and The Avengers with $7.8 million (in its seventh week).
