TRUMP PLANS TO BUILD WORLD’S BIGGEST STUDIO

Donald Trump has submitted preliminary plans to South Miami-Dade, FL commissioners to build the largest movie studio in the world. Although Trump himself did not attend a meeting of the county commission, Michael Cohen, his executive vice president and special counsel, did. He described a project covering more than 800 acres — twice the size of Universal Studios Florida (444 acres) — located near the Homestead Air Reserve Base. He described how the project would generate hundreds of millions of dollars a year in new revenue, result in thousands of new jobs, and improve land values. Cohen displayed lavish architectural renderings of the project, featuring enormous stages and offices situated along a palm-lined boulevard, with a lighted sign reading “Trump Studio City” situated at the entrance. The 14 stages would range in size from 19,500 to 218,400 square feet, Cohen said, capable of accommodating everything from small television productions to huge blockbuster features, while the back-lot space would double that area. Commissioners unanimously voted to have the county attorney assess the proposal. Reporting on the project, the Miami Herald commented, “Film production could be a boon for South Florida as the state now subsidizes the production industry with state tax credits, and South Florida’s English-language movie and television business tends to ebb and flow with the availability of state dollars.”
