The Amazing Spider-Man earned an amazing $35 million on its opening day on Tuesday, including $7.5 million in midnight screenings. It was more than any other film has ever earned on a Tuesday — beating the previous record of $27.9 million set by Transformers five years ago, when it, too, launched a six-day Fourth of July holiday. Sony/Columbia also noted that of that figure, $4 million came from 300 IMAX screens. With five days left the go in the six-day Independence Day holiday, the movie now seems likely to surpass that $110-115 million that most forecasters had predicted the movie would earn. In 2007 Transformers wound up with $155.4 million in its six-day roll-out. Last year at this time Transformers: Dark of the Moon opened on a Wednesday with $37.7 million.
