The overseas box office has been blanketed by a new Ice Age. The latest installment of the animated franchise, Continental Drift, earned $80.3 million in its opening weekend in 35 countries. The three previous entries also performed far more strongly abroad than they did domestically. Indeed, the third Ice Age movie grossed $690.1 million abroad — three times what it earned domestically. Meanwhile, Sony dropped The Amazing Spider-Man into 13 foreign markets, mostly in Asia, where it nabbed $51.1 million. The movie is due to expand into most other major overseas markets next weekend.
