DISH NETWORK TWEAKS ITS HOPPER AD-SKIPPING DVR

July 26, 2012 by · 1 Comment

DISH Network has made a series of tweaks to its Hopper digital video recorders that allow subscribers to skip commercials a day after programs are recorded. Among them: Users may now select which channels to record instead of merely recording every program on the air; they may now delete programs at a time that they choose; and the cursor now defaults to “no” instead of “yes” after subscribers are asked whether they want to skip ads. Reporting on the changes, Daily Variety commented today (Thursday): “While the changes may seem minor, they seem to represent a calculated strategy on Dish’s behalf to shift responsibility to viewers for the recording and ad-skipping rather than let them passively receive these features.”
