ICE AGE: CONTINENTAL DRIFT LIKELY TO DRIFT TO TOP

Ice Age: Continental Drift is expected to stamp out The Amazing Spider-Man at the box office this weekend. Although 20th Century Fox is predicting that it will wind up with around $35-40 million, many analysts see the film tracking higher and pulling in around $50-55 million. At the same time, the new Spider-Man movie has been seeing its earnings spin down after an initial surge over the Fourth of July holiday week, and it will likely wind up with around $25-30 million in its second weekend, according to forecasts. Ice Age will be fending off competition from two other family films this weekend, DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted and Disney/Pixar’s Brave. Both films have been in theaters for several weeks but both have continued to produce solid ticket sales. As for those families who have already seen both films, there’s also the possibility that many of them may now be thinking, “We’ve spent enough at the movies this summer.”
