SHOOTING COVERAGE TOPS FRIDAY’S RATINGS

CBS, NBC, and ABC on Friday dumped scheduled programming to present news specials dealing with the theater massacre in Colorado. Final ratings figures on Monday revealed that none of the specials individually drew a sizable audience, but together they accounted for more than 17 million viewers. CBS led off at 8:00 p.m. with a 748 Hours special that attracted 4.68 million viewers. ABC followed at 9:00 with a 20/20 news presentation that drew 4.04 million. Also at 9:00 p.m., NBC’s Dateline won the hour with 4.64 million viewers. At 10:00 p.m. a separate edition of 20/20 registered 4.61 million viewers.
