SPIDEY GRABS ANOTHER $23.4 MILLION ON HOLIDAY

After breaking records for a Tuesday at the box office with $35 million in ticket sales, The Amazing Spider-Man returned on Wednesday to capture $23.4 million more, bringing its total to nearly $59 million through two days of release — with four more to go before the Independence Day holiday ends on Sunday. The Hollywood Reporter observed that the $23.4-million gross was second only to 2007’s Transformers, which earned $27 million, thereby setting a record for the Fourth. The movie now seems likely to surpass that $110-115 million that most forecasters had predicted the movie would earn over the six-day holiday.
