WITH CURRY GONE, GMA BEATS TODAY

July 10, 2012 by · 2 Comments

Suggesting that Ann Curry may not have been the source of the Today show’s plunging ratings, ABC’s Good Morning America tied the NBC morning show in the ratings last week — the first week after Curry’s dismissal — and on Monday of this week, which was officially Savannah Guthrie’s first day as co-host, GMA handily beat Today 4.4 million viewers to 4 million, according to the Nielsen overnight results. Washington Post TV writer Lisa de Moraes observed that if those figures are confirmed by final national results on Wednesday, it will mark the first time that ABC’s morning show has outstripped NBC’s on a Monday since 2006. In recent weeks, GMA has beaten Today on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but, as DeMoraes points out, those are the days that feature segments from ABC’s hit series Dancing with the Stars from the previous night.
