Demonstrating its strong connection to its conservative audience, Fox News Channel drew significantly larger ratings for its coverage of the first night of the Republican National Convention than any other network, including broadcast giants NBC, CBS and ABC. During the 10:00 p.m. hour, when the broadcasters presented their coverage, FNC averaged 6.89 million viewers, far ahead of NBC’s 4.77 million, CBS’s 3.12 million and ABC’s 2.86 million. Cable rivals CNN and MSNBC trailed far behind with 1.47 million viewers each. Meanwhile, Sarah Palin has complained about “all my scheduled interviews” being dropped from Fox’s convention coverage Wednesday night. The network later issued a statement saying that its “plans changed based on the fact that the RNC condensed the schedule of speeches from four nights to three. We look forward to having Governor Palin back as soon as we can.”
