NBC GETS OFF EASY FOR CONFUSING NEIL ARMSTRONG WITH NEIL YOUNG

August 27, 2012 by · 4 Comments

Luckily for NBC, their latest gaffe — referring to Neil Armstrong as Neil Young in announcing the death of the pioneer astronaut — came on a weekend, when most of the late-night comedians were elsewhere. But NBC got a royal going-over on the social media, with Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Friendster distributing millions of wisecracks about the gaffe. Google’s cache of the NBCNews headline remained the top news search result throughout the day Fox News Channel’s conservative blog FoxNation pounced on it. After explaining the difference between Neil Armstrong and Neil Young, it remarked, “Just don’t tell NBC. They’re easily confused.” The website Mediaite congratulated NBC for being the first to report on the death of the first man to set foot on the moon. Unfortunately, it added, they will also have to accept the shame” of having identified him incorrectly.

What? No mention of CNN stating it was Lance Armstrong who had died?

They also confuse obama with a great and intelligent speaker.

All right, Numbskull Broadcasting Company, let’s see if I can make this as simple as possible so that you can understand. Neil Armstrong was an astronaut and the first man to set foot on the surface of another world. The moon, that is. Neil Young is an accomplished rock musician, singer, and songwriter. Have we got this straight?

The person responsible for that gaffe had to be a Gen Y’er with absolutely zero knowledge of history, but with a fine mind for music.
