NBC’S OLYMPICS AGAIN RUN RINGS AROUND RIVALS

NBC collected more ratings gold on Wednesday as its coverage of the 30th Olympic Games attracted 28.75 million viewers, according to Nielsen’s preliminary overnight ratings. The primetime coverage peaked in the 10:00 p.m. half-hour with 32.32 million viewers. By contrast, NBC’s competitors struggled to draw even three million viewers. The sole exception was CBS, which rounded up 5.31 million viewers for its summertime hit Big Brother, but even that figure tied a series low. Meanwhile, final ratings figures for Tuesday indicated that NBC drew 30.15 million viewers on that night, the highest number for a second Tuesday of a non-U.S. Olympics since the Montreal Summer Games in 1976.
