WARNER BROS. PASSES ON STEPHEN KING PROJECT

August 22, 2012 by · 3 Comments

Warner Bros., which has a long history of shelling out whatever it takes for a potentially lucrative franchise — consider the Batman and the Harry Potter movies or the Lord of the Rings — has passed on a project that would bring Stephen King’s Dark Tower to movie theaters and television. According to reports on Tuesday, the project, which was to have been directed by Ron Howard from a script by Akiva Goldsman, was to have been comprised of two theatrical movies and two TV miniseries. Universal and Paramount had previously rejected the project. But Deadline.com said on Tuesday that the filmmakers could find financing from Media Rights Capital and are already looking into putting Russell Crowe in the lead.
