ACADEMY MOVES UP DATE FOR ANNOUNCEMENT OF OSCAR NOMINEES

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences would prefer that its members actually see the movies they’re voting for. They are therefore giving them five extra days to do so — by moving up their announcement of the Oscar nominees to January 10 from the previously scheduled January 15. The members will then have until February 19 to submit their ballots. Five days later the results will be announced at the Oscar presentations. In a statement, the Academy said that the voting deadline was moved up in “an effort to provide members and the public a longer period of time to see the nominated films.” The Directors Guild of America had previously announced that it would reveal its nominees for its own DGA Awards nominees on January 10. But following the AMPAS statement, it said that it will move up its announcement of the DGA nominees to January 8.
