ACTORS ASK WHERE THEIR FOREIGN RESIDUAL PAYMENTS WENT

A group of actors, led by former Screen Actors Guild President Ed Asner, has accused SAG-AFTRA of withholding the foreign residual payments of “tens of thousands” of U.S. actors and possibly unlawfully converting some of those payments. In a letter to the union dated Sept. 11 and reported today (Thursday) by Daily Variety, the actors said: “We are the real owners of foreign levies and are entitled to a full accounting of all transactions involving our property.” But in an interview with the trade publication, Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, general counsel for SAG-AFTRA,, said that PriceWaterhouseCoopers keeps track of the funds and noted, “If we hadn’t gone and collected the money, the money would have been lost to our members forever.”
