An actress who appeared in the anti-Islamic film that reportedly sparked violent protests throughout the Arab world last week has sued the film’s producer and YouTube claiming that she has been subjected to death threats since the film was released and is now unable to provide child care for her grandchildren. Alleging fraud, slander and intentional infliction of emotional distress, Cindy Lee Garcia said that she was duped into appearing in the film, Innocence of Muslims by filmmaker Nakoula Bassely Nalkoula, aka Sam Bacile, who told her he was making an adventure film about ancient Egyptians and that there would be no references to religion in it. Since the protests against the film have escalated, the suit went on, Garcia has been fired from her job “inasmuch as she is now considered a target and the safety of those in her presence cannot be guaranteed.” Her lawyer said this morning that a judge has refused to issue an order to YouTube to remove a “trailer” for the movie.
