Until now, Apple has refused to approve any app developed for the iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch that has anything to do with BitTorrent, explaining that “this category of applications is often used for the purpose of infringing third-party rights.” However, reported on Thursday that Apple has now permitted two BitTorrent-related apps, Conttrol and Transmission RPC to be offered via its App Store. TorrentFreak points out that neither app will permit users to download movies directly to their mobile devices but will only allow them to send the files to their desktop or laptop computers remotely. TorrentFreak notes, however, that similar apps have been rejected by Apple in the past and asks editorially, “Could it be that Apple has lifted its BitTorrent ban, or were these apps given the green light by mistake?”
