Barnes & Noble is the latest company to sell movies online that can be viewed on TV sets or mobile devices virtually anywhere or anytime. Although it is being called Nook Video, the service will not be limited to the bookseller’s Nook tablet devices. In a statement, the company said that Warner Bros., Disney, Paramount, Sony, HBO and Starz have agreed to provide content for the service. Conspicuously absent from among the content providers were 20th Century Fox and Universal among the majors and Lionsgate and MGM among the mini-majors. The company gave few details about the service, omitting any mention of pricing or a launch date in its statement announcing the service. In it, William J. Lynch, the Barnes & Noble CEO, said: “The launch of our new digital video service with our long-time studio partners allows us to bring award-winning current and classic movies, TV shows, documentaries and more to millions of customers’ screens, coming soon.”
