Resident Evil Retribution

Resident Evil: Retribution may have had a lukewarm launch in the U.S. over the weekend, taking in the lowest amount of any installment of the franchise, but it launched with solid ticket sales abroad. It raked in $49.6 million, the franchise’s best foreign opening to date, producing expecially impressive ticket sales in Japan, where it earned $11.2 million, and Russia, where it earned $8.5 million. After two weeks in China, it has now grossed $40 million. The film, written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, and starring Mila Jovocich, Sienna Guillory and Michelle Rodriguez, opened domestically with $21.1 million over the weekend, and by Tuesday, it had raised its gross to an estimated $23.6 million.
