The 64th Primetime Emmy Awards on ABC aired opposite Sunday Night Football on NBC. Football won by a blowout margin. The Emmys attracted 11.6 million viewers, down from 12.4 million a year ago, a 6.5-percent drop. (Last year’s awards telecast was down 8 percent from the prior year.) But among the 18-49 age group, the awards telecast was down a whopping 19 percent. Meanwhile, Sunday Night Football (New England Patriots vs. Baltimore Ravens) averaged 19.82 million viewers, peaking in the 9:30 p.m. half-hour with 20.62 million. Earlier in the evening, an NFL overrun on CBS captured 22.6 million viewers, the highest-rated show of the night.
