KIDS STILL INFLUENCE VIDEO SALES

September 20, 2012 by · 1 Comment

The power of children to affect home video sales was amply demonstrated last week as the PG-13-rated Snow White and the Huntsman debuted at No. 1 on the Nielsen Video-Scan First Alert sales chart. Not far down the list — in fourth place — was the direct-to-video Barbie: The Princess & the Popstar, an animated feature with Kelly Sheridan providing the voice of Barbie (as she has in previous Barbie direct-to-video DVDs). Somewhat surprising was the second-place debut of The Big Bang Theory: The Complete Fifth Season in second place, followed by Titanic, which finally was released on Blu-ray Disc after being available on DVD for twelve years. None of those titles was available for online rentals on Netflix or Amazon Prime or at Redbox kiosks. That allowed Lionsgate, which does not impose on delay on rentals, to take over first place on Home Media‘s rental chart with What to Expect When You’re Expecting, which landed on the sales chart at No. 7.
