MOVIEGOERS AGAIN EXPECTED TO STAY HOME
Four new films will be opening wide at the box office this weekend, but they are not likely to lift it out of the doldrums that it drifted into at the beginning of the month. The horror film, House at the End of the Street, which was not screened for critics, is expected to lead the pack with about $17-20 million. It stars Jennifer Lawrence in her first movie since The Hunger Games. The Clint Eastwood baseball flick Trouble with the Curve, the science-fiction thriller Dredd 3D, and the drama End of Watch are expected to follow in that order, with each expected to take in around $10-15 million. Also this weekend, the critically praised The Master will expand to 788 theaters after opening in five theaters a week ago. But if it does even a solid percentage of the business it did last weekend, it could be a contender for honors this time around. Last weekend, when it raked in $736,000 in the five theaters, it set a record for a per-theater average.
