Watching videos online set a new record in August as 188 million Internet users in the U.S. accessed 37.7 billion videos online, according to comScore, which measures online video use. The Reston, VA-based research firm said that ad views rose to 9.5 billion. Once again, Google’s YouTube dominated with 150.2 million unique viewers. A distant second was Yahoo! with 55 million, while Microsoft sites drew 53.7 million viewers. Among those websites offering music videos, VEVO led with 47.6 million viewers, well ahead of Warner Music with 24.8 million and Machinima with 21.9 million. Overall, comScore said, 87.3 percent of the U.S. Internet audience viewed at least some online videos. The average length of the content was 6.7 minutes and .4 minutes for advertisements.
