The growing penetration of digital video recorders into American households, particularly younger ones, is increasingly affecting ratings results, with some of the shows that were hit with lower numbers at the outset of the season making up most of their losses when “Live Plus 3” (playback during the first three days following the original broadcast) is taken into account, Daily Variety observed today (Tuesday). For example, Nielsen reported last week that ratings for the season’s second-week episode of NBC’s Revolution were down 16 percent among 18-49-year-old viewers from the season premiere, but when DVR viewing was taken into consideration, they were down just 5 percent.
