KUTCHER IS HIGHEST PAID TV ACTOR

October 18, 2012 by · 1 Comment

When Ashton Kutcher was named to succeed Charlie Sheen as the star of CBS’s Two and a Half Men he remarked that he had received so many congratulatory phone calls and message that “you’d almost think I won the lottery or something, which I kind of did.” That assessment was borne out on Wednesday when Forbes magazine listed Kutcher at the top of its list of highest paid TV actors. Forbes estimated Kutcher’s earnings at $24 million for the 12 months ending in May 2012. That may be a far cry from the $40 million that Sheen earned the previous year to put him at the top of the Forbes list (he didn’t make this year’s), but it’s well above second place on the list, shared by Hugh Laurie and Ray Romano who each earned $18 million. Alec Baldwin and Mark Harmon tied for third place with $15 million apiece.

Those numbers are impressive as yearly income, but what does in mean in terms of the number of episodes each actor is making for that year, and how much they are paid per episode? Some shows, like the Star Trek franchise, usually did 22 to 26 or so episodes a year, others may do 10 or less a year. I believe that the number of episodes would make a difference as to how well-paid a given actor is. Being paid $2,000,000.00 per hour of show for 10 shows can be more impressive than $500,000.00 per half-hour show for 40 episodes. Congrats to all the actors for their success., even if they did not get the kind of income Charlie Sheen was getting.
