LOOPER DEBUTS AT NO. 1 OVERSEAS

October 1, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Overseas, Looper threw many forecasters for a loop with a far-better-than-expected $36-million opening in just a handful of markets. It earned more in China alone than it earned in the U.S. — $24 million versus $21.2 million domestically. (However, U.S. distributors receive only 25 percent of Chinese box-office revenue versus 50 percent from other foreign markets.) Slipping to second place after two weeks at No. 1, Resident Evil: Retribution earned $20.7 million to bring its overseas total to $137 million. Sony’s Hotel Transylvania, which debuted at No. 1 domestically, opened unimpressively in 13 international markets with $8.1 million.
