Paramount/DreamWorks’ Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted landed in first place on the home-video sales charts in its first week, dropping last week’s champ, 20th Century Fox’s Prometheus, to second place. Disney/Marvel’s The Avengers slipped to third place on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert chart, which does not disclose actual sales figures. The recent scandal involving Dinesh D’Souza, its writer and director, appeared to have little effect on sales of the anti-Obama documentary 2016: Obama’s America, which debuted in fourth place on the DVD sales chart. It was released on video less than two months after its wide theatrical debut. Meanwhile, today’s (Thursday) Hollywood Reporter is reporting that D’Souza is locked in a battle with Douglas Sain, one of the owners of the company that produced the film, Sain claims that D’Souza spent some of the production company’s money on his relationship with a younger woman he was seeing while still married. D’Souza has since filed for divorce. D’Souza shot back that Sain had been making poor financial decision and trying to take over control of the production company.
