NBC got off to a surprisingly strong start this season with its programming on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Thursday’s line-up was no Must See TV, and Friday and Saturday amount to ratings-challenged nights for all broadcast networks. Therefore on Monday the network announced that it would be delaying the launch of its planned comedy line-up on Friday nights in order to focus its promotional budget on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights. (It has no concern about Sunday, which it utterly dominates with Sunday Night Football.) Daily Variety quoted an NBC spokesman as saying that by delaying the launch of Whitney and Community it will also be able to “have both comedies in our back pocket if we need to make any schedule changes on those nights.” The network offered no indication when it might make a decision about its plans for Friday nights.
