ODD LIST OF MOST-PIRATED MOVIES

October 15, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

TorrentFreak.com’s list of the most downloaded movies on BitTorrent last week is a curious lot. Heading the list for the first time is Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which flopped at the box office. Placing second — it was No. 1 last week — was the Nicolas Cage disaster Stolen. The $35-million film opened to a chorus of critical boos at 141 theaters last month with just $183,125 dollars and was quickly yanked after the following weekend. Coming in third was Safety Not Guaranteed, an independent movie, made for about $750,000 that played unimpressively in limited release. The next three films on the list were all animated family films, Madagascar 3, Ice Age: Continental Drift, and Hotel Transylvania. No. 7 on the list was the movie version of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road, which screened to mixed reviews at the Cannes Film Festival last May and is due to be released in the U.S. in December. Rounding out the top ten on the TorrentFreak list were Prometheus, Men in Black 3 and That’s My Boy. With the exception of Hotel Transylvania, not a single film currently in wide release made the list.
