Most political commentators called Thursday night’s vice-presidential debate essentially a draw. But while both Congressman Paul Ryan and Vice President Joe Biden received mostly high marks, the pundits divided widely over the performance of Martha Raddatz as moderator. Britain’s Guardian newspaper commented, “She was calm, articulate and relentless — and unlike the two candidates, moderator Martha Raddatz of ABC News was the undoubted star of this year’s vice-presidential debate.” Fox News co-anchor Bret Baier appeared critical of Raddatz for her “frequent interruptions,” adding, “Republicans are already all over Twitter, criticizing this moderating style because they feel she interrupted Congressman Ryan much more before he finished his thoughts and perhaps his charges.” “Martha Raddatz is the worst moderator ever,” Fox News host Sean Hannity tweeted. On CNN, however, anchor Wolf Blitzer said that he thought Raddatz “did an excellent excellent job.” His CNN colleague Soledad O’Brien also praised Raddatz, saying that “she was 100 percent in control.”
