Ann Curry, who left NBC’s Today show in tears last June after she became the fall guy for its falling ratings, must be experiencing overwhelming schadenfreude these days. Latest Nielsen results indicate that the bottom has fallen out of the show’s ratings since her departure. observed on Thursday that last week’s victory of ABC’s Good Morning America represented the first time it has won the season-premiere week over Today among total viewers since 1992 and among 18-49-year-old viewers since 1991. The website, which tracks broadcast and cable news programming, noted that during the same week a year ago, Today was leading GMA by 420,000 viewers. Last week GMA led Today by 808,000 viewers. In its report on the ratings collapse of Today, the New York Times observed that “the biggest factor seems to be NBC’s dismissal of Ann Curry in June. The morning after Ms. Curry tearfully departed Today, there was a huge spike in viewership for GMA; aside from a short period of time during the Summer Olympics, Today hasn’t won a week since.”
