The Thanksgiving holiday not only produced record ticket sales at the box office, but it also produced home video sales that may have exceeded that record. While studios do not disclose the amount of revenue that DVDs and Blu-ray Discs bring in, one unidentified studio told Home Media magazine that it sold 6 million catalog titles on Thanksgiving eve alone. If all of that studio’s product sold for the deep-discount price of $10, that would mean that the studio earned in one day what The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 earned in five days at theaters. Clearly most of the sales were intended as Christmas gifts for children. Of the top five sellers, three were animated movies, included No. 1, Disney’s Brave. While that was a recent newcomer on retail shelves, the runner-up, Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax, was released on home video more than three months ago. On Home Media‘s rental chart, The Expendables 2 debuted at No. 1, pushing The Amazing Spider-Man to second place.
